Our team at PJ Power Inc. has more than 50 years of combined experience in keeping power and electricity running. We sell many components for generators, including non-capacitor generator replacement voltage regulators.
PJ Power Inc. focuses on diesel engine components, including all types of diesel parts. We understand the importance of consistently functional generators. If you are in need of a part replacement, our team can help!
What Is a Non-Capacitor Generator?
A capacitor has two functions in a generator, to induce voltage into the rotor and to regulate voltage. In the past, all generators were capacitor generators. A capacitor is similar to a battery in that it accumulates electric charge when it connects to a power source.
Some generators can operate without a capacitor because another component can regulate the voltage. This regulation becomes the function of the automatic voltage regulator.
What Is an Automatic Voltage Regulator?
An Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) is an electronic device for automatically maintaining generator output terminal voltage at a set value under varying load and operating temperature.
How Do AVRs Work?
Automatic Voltage Regulators smooth out the load and RPM fluctuations to generate more consistent power than a standard generator alternator without inverting to DC. AVRs use a method to improve the voltage regulation by creating additional excitation of an alternator.
AVRs compare the rectified output of a voltage transformer, which is proportional to the terminal voltage of the generator, with the reference voltage and generate an error signal equal to their difference. They then supply that signal to the exciter field.
A capacitor is used to excite the field of the alternator externally, leading to delays and drop times. AVR generators are not inverter generators either. Though they share similar functions and applications, AVR generators are portable generators. AVR generators are cheaper but louder than most inverter generators.
AVR Generators vs. Capacitor Generators
Both generators control voltage and provide power. However, there are some key differences that impact their uses. It is important to know which generator you have before replacing parts or trying different functions.
Electronic devices are at risk during power outages because backup power supplies are notoriously unreliable when managing voltage. AVR generators can be used to charge computers, cellphones, televisions, and other sensitive electronics.
Surges are typically more common in portable generators, but AVR generators are better protected against surges.
AVR generators are typically more expensive than capacitor generators. These categories are broad, and each class of generator has varying sizes and qualities. All AVRs have protective properties and can save users money over time on component replacement. Maintenance and replacements vary between generator types.
The costs of using generators include upfront cost, fuel costs, and maintenance costs. Each generator will vary on this front. While AVR has higher upfront costs, it is important to analyze generator costs on a case-by-case basis.
AVR generators function differently than capacitor generators in many ways. AVR generators are able to supply power more consistently than capacitors.
● AVR generators can support more appliances at once
● AVR generators are less likely to experience a brownout
● AVR generators can be used in parallel with others of their kind
● AVR generators provide a more stable power supply
Every power generation system requires a means of controlling voltage and current produced by the generator. AVGs act as a safety system against voltage, overload, and overcurrent.
PJ Power Inc. Supplies Non-Capacitor Generator Replacement Voltage Regulators
Even if you have a non-capacitor generator, you will still need parts replacement from time to time. PJ Power Inc. has a selection of AVRs for these types of generators.
Your generator cannot provide stable power without a voltage regulation system. Generators are not a good investment if they are not maintained and ready to be used when needed. Prompt generator repairs and replacements make for a longer-lasting generator.
Non-capacitor generator replacement voltage regulators vary in size and compatibility. PJ Power Inc. provides a range of quality replacements at affordable prices. Our team is dedicated to customer service and can help you find the right non-capacitor generator replacement voltage regulators for your generator.
